Do you need municipality permission to do this? Some guy were tarring over a fibre install and when I asked about it, they said they can do it for me without requiring any permission.

Others have said that you can request the municipality to do it for you.

Which is it?

The municipality do it for you!? In SA?

How much do you want to lower the kerb?

Yeah but not all kerbs are the same.
What I mean is will it be a drastic change? If not, I'd say just do it

Have contacted the municipality to find out. Will proceed regardless and depending on their quote compared to my existing quote.

The same way you’d lower it if you have an entrance gate.
are you going to create a new entrance ? If so then that is something you would need to talk to the council about.

When you drop the curb you might also change the way the water flows when it rains.
I'd like to do it on a few of our curbs to make it easier to navigate with a pram or bike.... but probably easier to petition the council.

Is this all because, or so something my Dad told me growing up, that even if you own the house the municipality owns the pavement?

Octotel had to repave outside my place.

Their contractor didn't have any problem enlarging my driveway by 1 kerb section.

Knocked 1 standard kerb block out and moved the sloping one into its place. Pretty easy- how much bigger do you want yours?

If you in Cape Town I would get permission. That is first world problem.

The rest of Africa go with your gut feeling. The worst is you can get fined and sued if something goes wrong.
This was in Cape Town

I mean I've been asking them to cut down these horrible freaking pine trees outside my property for years, I'm at the point of I'm going to pay someone to cut them down, how would they know I did it?

The people I spoke to were repaving after the neighbours installed fibre, Octotel too.

I want to drop 3 blocks and slant 2 blocks. And then slope the area down.

Was quoted R1500.
