Dropbox unveils photo uploading feature

Users get 500 megabytes of storage after their first upload and can receive up to a total of 3 gigabytes of extra free space.

I believe a total of 5GB extra storage could be earned by testing the the uploading feature in the Beta client. EDIT - I see the blog entry say it's 3GB, but it was 5GB at an earlier time, if memory serves.

I like how they first developed the Android App. Not that I have anything against iOS, it's just that iOS versions off apps usually gets developed first.

Indeed. Everybody however does not use the full 2GB. I'm pretty sure a significant portion of Dropbox's users only use something like 5% of that. The paid-for accounts probably also subsidise the storage of the free accounts.

I tried it today, and I couldn't see any new settings in the interface. As I understand, it does it's magic after choosing the "Import to Dropbox" option from the autorun dialog.

I had to try and trick it because it wasn't working. I tried uploading cr2 files and it crashed, I tried uploading video and it cashed. If I kept taking photos to upload my shutter would have fallen off. ;)
