Dropped my 2.5external drive

Got a phonecall and data is recovered on separate drive ready to be copied. Only one sector is damaged so only a few bytes lost not sure from which file through.

What did it cost if u dont mind me asking

If they imaged the drive afterwards and there was only 1 unreadable sector out of 1,953,525,168 then the drive is 99.9% fine. However..... it's been opened. The heads could/will be slightly damaged/stressed. It may work fine for a day, for a week, for a year or 10. A head could also pack up tomorrow and you'll get a headcrash and the drive will be destroyed. I would never, ever trust a drive for storage which has been opened. The last few S1000LM024 which we've had in for stiction have been 100% recoveries, not even 1 unread sector. But do we give them back to the customer to use for storage? Certainly not.

R3,350.00. I'm going to frame the invoice to teach myself a lesson. Sometimes I think I self sabotage myself.
But wait! There's more!

Now get yourself a decent disk imaging package like Acronis Backup for PC (or the Home version) and at least two other external HDDs, or one and the cloud (use only a reputable provider that won't go bust, like Microsoft, Google, Amazon). And resolve to develop the disciplines and habits needed to make regular backups.
