Drum machine / step sequencer build

Had to swap power supply but otherwise....it lives! Transplant successful.

I have a few ESP-32's lying around here. I want to hook up some sort of thing for my son to play with... he is 7... so I need make some sort of "can only connect correctly" setup. lol

He is crazy about anything power/electricity related. He is figuring out redstone on minecraft currently.
Maybe colour code the wires of a few components and colour label the GPIO pins similarly? I'm sure he'll love it the first time he sees something light up.
Nice work but that soldering 😳
Heh. Part of the practise that hopefully one day makes perfect.

Are you using lead based solder?
The lead free stuff doesn't flow as nicely and it often cools to that dull silver which your solder joints look like, or maybe your soldering iron temperature is a bit low.

Yes it's lead. What other kind of solder would you use for electronics?

How do you know it’s lead based?
Most solders are lead free these days.
"Most electronics are soldered with lead-free materials primarily to comply with environmental regulations, such as the EU’s RoHS directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) launched in 2006, which bans hazardous materials in landfills, including lead-based solder"

Got my MIDI in circuit working. Can now sync to external gear / trigger with midi controllers.

Housing for the sequencer will begin to print and send parts off this week. Starting the next project in the meantime - a monophonic bass synth. I want all those cpu cycles going toward the fattest, crystal clear bass I get get out of this. Going to try have it mostly hardware controlled so time to wire up all those potentiometers...12 more to go.
