Well, my friend had the polo Gti DSG. Keep an eye on the oil levels, I heard the DSG gearbox goes through a lot of it.

Was the polo gti box a problem from the factory coz i heard many people had issues

I dunno. Drive the car properly, don't crash and keep an eye on the warning lights. Service every 15,000km. Not sure what else there is.

"D" is for going forwarD and "R" is for going backwaRds.
"N" is for going Nowhere.

OK - just to be serious, for once, don't left foot brake with DSG as it gets the box confused and you end up with a fist full of nothing.

Just as an example, I have a very steep driveway out on to the main road, and in a normal automatic, I rest my left foot on the brake as I reverse out on to the road, just so that I can stop instantly if a taxi comes at me. Well, that doesn't work with a DSG box, as it simply goes into "I don't know what the hell you want me to do" mode, and bogs down - quite scary as a taxi comes hurtling towards you at 107.55 km/h!

I will have to disagree with you Faz - I left-foot brake all the time and it worked brilliantly on our 2007 A3 2.0 TDi.

Not so much on the 2014 A3, since they have shifted the brake pedal too much to the right and made it smaller.

I specifically had this problem with the Alfa DSG box, which was disastrous, as I explained - it happens in reverse, and not when you are going forward. I only tried it out once on a VW and that was reversing down a very narrow pathway with expensive cars on either side, and it did much the same thing.

Im confused here; in a normal auto when its in "D" it creeps foward when you let go the brakes? Even if your not pressing anything?

So what exactly does a DSG do?
Clutchless manual? No clutch pedal but still shift gears? But a computer does the work of the clutch?

Yes, it will creep forward when you let go of the brakes, just like a normal auto box.

DSG have two clutches, so gearshifts are a lot quicker & smoother than normal autos.

Faz, I'm still not sure how the car bogs down - after all there is only one reverse gear. I also have a steepish driveway and never experienced this while reversing, either up or down.
