If I were to purchase a DSL Complete package from WebAfrica (I hear they're the best for latency) I would still need to pay line rental to Telkom. This is a service I DO NOT use, DO NOT want to use and is an utter waste, as such.

How many people are paying this R90-odd Rand a month to Telkom for a service they don't even use. I've actually removed the phone and am no longer using the line at all!

I am, well, I guess 100% of the people with ADSL pays them the R112 (incl vat) per month.

Not sure why WA would be better latency as it doesn't depend on the ISP but the backbone + line quality you're on

The Complete package includes your DSL line rental and you receive a single bill from WA. If u want DSL, u need the Telkom line...

Every gamer on this forum seems to rave about WebAfrica for online gaming! This is probably due to the option of switching between SAIX and Verizon (i.e. choosing which one is best for latency on any given day).

There is no difference in latency, and you do have to pay the R112 for analouge rental. :(

Anyone know if its worth waiting for another Tier 1 provider to start installing the last mile - i.e. no more analogue line rental cr@p?

Damn - the last mile - gonna be a while...

Lets see who are we waiting on?

Neotel - only by 2009 or later, depending on Seacom's arrival (though I think they're not dependent on the Seacom cable to run the last mile as SAT3 should be available to them)

Vodacom's ADSL is due in April, but that is still piggy backing on Telscums lines I think - so no running away from analogue line rental.

MTN - no news.

LLU is scheduled for 2011 or something right?

Vox may still be a dark horse in the running.

I think its gonna be another year at least till us ppl on the street get the last mile sorted out.

Or at least until the corporate market has been sorted out with their fibre links in the metropoles and then providers will mission out to other surrounding areas.
