Need advice please...

I have Telkom Mega100-WR router with 1-4MB services from Telkom and OpenWeb as my ISP.

I was upgraded from 512k to 1-4MB service three weeks ago. Since the upgrade I have been experiancing severe connection dropage (new word for today;)) The last five days have been the worse.

What happens is the following. I can work/play/download for x amount of time, then my DSL Link LED on the router starts flickering, goes off and then 5secs later it starts up again, after which my Internet LED also comes back on. This happens for hours on end about every 10-15mins.

After that whole shebang I have to logon to the default gateway, restart the router from the web utility or hard restart with the Router power button. Stable for about 30mins and the whole cycly start again.

I have replace the ports/noise filter on the line as well.

Any advice or superior knowledge?

PLEASE!!

Sounds like your signal strength is too low as a result of the upgrade.
Telkom sets your synch speed to the highest stable value - sometimes this value is not stable at all and you probably need to be downgraded somewhat. Not every1 can have true 4mb speeds but something over 1mb should be possibly. Find out what your synch speed is then get telkom to lower it just a bit till you have a stable connection.

Please paste your SNR/ATT values as well as your up and down synch speeds.

Can like to!

Will do when I am home tonight.

Feel free to post more advice :)

EDIT: I phoned Telkom twice about the sync speed, the confirmed that it was sycning at 4MB. Everynight when I get home, my downspeed is at a differ value from the previous evening. It ranges from anything between 1300 - 3700(odd) down is 512k constant. Down is never at a contant.

PLEASE

dont think there is any more advise to this issue, as it is pretty common after an upgrade.

Fair enough, but how does one resolve the issue? Or more importantly.. Who? Me? Or Hellkom?

as the others said, your line probably cant handle syncing at such a high speed, you need to phone telkom and get them to drop it down, as the speed drops, the possibility for a stable line increases.

This is a progress update from TelkomSA. Fault *******280908 for service id 011******* is in-hand with our tech repair division. Please do not reply to this sms

I phoned them. The highly-notso-intelligent operator could not tell me anything. ZERO!!! ZILCH!!

Will wait till tomorrow morning to grind them

Akai, there are TONS of forumites having this problem and I'm gonna push rpm to publish an article about it and put this issue in the spotlight because it's unacceptable that we have to go through this.

I agree post your values then we'll be able to tell you what's gong on.

Also what you can try is to test with a different brand of router to see if it helps but don't buy one only if you can borrow one from a friend.
