Is there anyway u can get telkom to fix your line at the dslam, cause from yesterday my dsl line is continually dropping nd i have never been able to sync properly example: at 3068 no 3072 and 4092 not 4096 but then it drops

thx the captain

Ask them to reset your line, sometimes that helps. If not, then there might be some interference on the line.

Is your line outside or underground?

i am not sure i live in a complex if that helps i think the box is outside.. the wierd thing is i used to live literally 400m up the road and i had a perfect 4096 connection that never dropped now i suffer....

I heard a while back that everytime the cable gets cut(mostly by builders) and has to be fixed, there remains some residual damage that causes the line speed(sync) to become slower.

If you live in an area where there is a lot of building, the line will inevitable be damaged quite regulary resulting in a poor sync speed.

Like so:
- Disconnect from the internet, turn your router/modem off.
- Remove the ADSL filter.
- Pick up the phone, and listen to your line for a good 10 minutes or so. You're listening for cracking and such. If you hear cracking, then you can safely request a house call.
- Follow your telephone line as best you can, look for situations where it can be bumped or interfered with or is sagging more than those lines usually do.
- Finally, guess how far away the line is from the exchange. If the distance is bordering on 4km's away, then it's simply the distance from the exchange that is the problem.

There is no solution to the distance problem, unless there's an exchange closer to you that you can use.

If you can point the techie in the right direction, he will solve the problem.
But, the distance problem is an aspect of ADSL that cannot be overcome.
Cracking indicates a bad connection.
