Any idea guys?

Phone Telkom and log a fault.

I had exactly the same problem, disconnects when it rains. Phoned (waited over an hour) them on Saturday and it seems it was fixed yesterday evening.

I also received a call from them this morning saying they had fixed it.

ds margin of 6...there is the problem

6 is borderline..is going into a sync-resync loop.

get a tech out. for attenuation of 43 you should have anything between 15 and 25 for a downstream snr

"No there isnt a problem with your line. I just tested your line and reset the port. There shouldnt be a problem. Call back if u still get disconnected" - Stupid telkom help desk

10 minutes later, disconnected

I know have a ds of 4!

Doesnt telkom have a policy where all faults must be fixed within 24 hours? Reported fault on monday, still hasnt been given to a technician to fix! They now logging a high level fault.

I called 080 060 0126 instead of 0800 375 375 and they answer quicker and they logging high level fault

So the techie eventually pitched up... He says he sees no problem with the line, but he gave me his cell number if there is a problem.

The line still disconnects but not that often. He says that we are like 4.5 -5 km away from the exchange, that is why the attenuation is so high. He says to get 15 - 25, you would have to be right on the exchange.

Its strange though, cause we also have a 4mb line connected to the same exchange and doesnt give any problems.

Line dropping

Downstream SNR figures less than 12db will disconnect regularly. Using the fremnet calc 43db atten - you should be about 3.1km from the exchange.
To prove whether the problem is Telkoms or not - you need to connect your router directly onto the cable that comes into your place from outside.

=====|=Router

Disconnect all other cables, alarms extensions etc and then run a 10 min test to check the SNR.
If this is still below 12db then dont let Telkom pull the wool over your eyes.
They need to replace the cable pair to your home.

However, I have seen on many occasions - a missing filter, a cordless phone, burglar alarm without a filter, or a bad or corroded joint within the house that pulls the SNR figure down and causes very frustrating disconnects.

Hope this helps

Cheers

well good luck with your problem i have the same problem for over an year know and they cant find any fault on my line and distance are no excuse belive me...
