Hi Guys

I changed routers a while back and ever since I have done that my DSL connection keeps on dropping. What I have noticed is that every time it drops and reconnects the dsl line speed is different. And it changes is far apart. from 10 to 6 to even as low as 2 mbps.

I am on my third router and still the same problem. Telkom has tested the line twice and says its all good.

I'm pulling out my hair of frustration, PLEASE HELP !!!!!

Check your filters, do the disconnects happen randomly or at one specific time a day. Just tell TelkomZA on the forum here cos he will fix it much faster than those guys at the call center.

completely random. I do not have any phones connected to the adsl line. Its for internet only.

Give me some advice on contacting TelkomZA on this forum. Is he a person or how does it work?

There is a thread with labelled TelkomZA. The first post is by Telkomza so just click on his name and then send private message. Then explain what your issue. Oh and whats you SNR and attenuation?

Stupid question.

How does one measure SNR and attenuation?

I have a similar problem.

I think its 10.0.0.1, go there and login, default username and password is admin admin.

IP address: 192.168.0.1
Username: admin
If you need a password it should be netgear1 or admin. But just leave the password blank on the first try.
I don't have a netgear and found this on the net.

BTW: 10.0.0.1 is for the old billion routers.

My last router was the same model and i used 10.0.0.1, so no idea then.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I've replaced my equipment many times over the last two years. Our line drops when people phone and when it rains. Today it is off completely. Fault reported on December 23. No sign of Telkom yet. I only have one analog phone with filter. Problems persist despite replacing the filters many times. Been like this for at least two years. I actually took our landline number out of the phone book and don't advertise it anymore so that people don't call us and disconnect us. Telkom says it is our equipment every single time and they never bother to come out. Usually they just lower our speed until someone manages to find the fault. Then it works for a week or two. Then the cycle starts all over again.

The one Telkom guy actually was ignorant enough to tell me that it was a hub on my internal network that was causing the dropping. That hub has since been upgraded. Problems remain.

If its not your filters or your modem maybe there is an issue with the telephone box outside your house. I don't really know alot about this hopefully Zeertop or someone else can shed some more light.
