My electricity just went out and when I got it back and restarted my computer my dsl wont connect! It says that the remote computer did not respond (error 678) when I try connect, and I've tried reset my router twice. I tried running the 'easy setup' that came with telkoms marconi router but it says that the computer cannot detect the modem, but the LAN between my pc and router is active. The light on the router to say that my computer is connected by LAN is on.
Please help me as I am using a 56K modem now!
Thanx,

ur prob using dhcp.. did you make sure to boot up the router first and then your pc?

Since your pc need to get the ip address from the router, if the pc started up first it wouldnt have gotten an ip from the router dhcp server.

It can happen that the account server doesn't realise you disconnected. Give it a couple of minutes and try again...

It thinks you want to make more simultanious connections than you are allowed...

hmm... Thats not it.
I restarted the modem then waited about a minute then turned on my pc and it didnt work

ok razer, can u ping your router?

it should be 192.168.1.200 or 10.0.0.2

goto start menu->runbox->type in cmd->then in the dosbox type in ping 10.0.0.2 or ping 192.168.1.200

Let us know

razor i frequently have the same problem wit same router.
turn off your pc and router(pull the plug) wait a while(+/- 5 min) and plug it back in. Wait for the "dsl link" light to stop flashing and turn solid and then boot up your PC.

it says request timed out for both of the pings, I'll try your way now rburley

also which marconi do you have?

{EDIT} no no no sumthing sounds wrong even if your dsl link is off you should still be able to ping it.
power cuts and surges are terrible for electronics, i hav lost R1000's due to it, lets hope its not damaged

I have marconi 4 port ethernet.
rburley, your way didn't work.
All the lights are working on the router btw.

But the lights are working!?!?
How could it be broken if the lights are working?

yeah the lights are working but that means jack **** really.
hang on let my whip out my manual

open IE, type 10.0.0.2, enter UN "admin" pass "administrator".
does it let you in?

It doesnt ask for UN or pass, just goes "The page cannot be displayed".

This is bull**** I just got dsl 2 weeks ago!!!!!!!!
What do I need to do now? Will telkom gimme a new router for free (I have nothing left, might as well ASK).
So what is a cheap router I can buy?
How come none of my other electronics went, just the router? I have my pc, fax, 56K modem, 2 speakers and phone all connected to the same plugpoint.

well then its not even showin up therfor its broken, there not much else u can do.
Its probably blown.
Sometimes when a big power surge occurs it trips the power because its earthed. This could of happend and blown it before the power cut. BTW i am not a electrician so I could be talking rubbish but thats my theory.

hell yeah take it to telkom and claim that you got it like that, they rip us off enough now its our turn to do the ripping off.
You can get a decent router for about R600 I think, not sure as I was stupid like u to get marconi

I am sooooooooooooo pissed off right now!!!!!
I'll call up telkom 2morrow & flame them for it, but I guess I better start looking for a cheap router. Anyone have a suggestion?

Goto your lancard tcp/ip properties

enter the following:

ip address: 10.0.0.10
subnet: 255.0.0.0

make sure it saves, also incase just reboot then when back in windows.. open browser and enter 10.0.0.2

I think ur dhcp on router may have wacked out..
