Hi

today i look at the modem and check what its syncing at usually over 3mbps but today my upload speed increased and the download speed decreased

With your up speed incrasing, your down speed does decrease...

If we are talking purely synch rates, I disagree. If we are talking about effective download speed while you are uploading at your connection's maximum, then yes. My upstream synch was bumped up (512Kbps) without any affect on my downstream (4Mbps), and if you look at the thread about upgrading to 640Kbps, I don't recall anyone that had their upstream synch increased complaining about a downstream drecrease...

matrixweb: here's my tried and true (tired, too) question - what are your line statistics (noise margin, attenuation, etc.)?

Good question. Unfortunately, I'm not sure. I do know that the synch speed with the DSLAM is adjusted to achieve a target noise margin (I believe it is 6dB), but I suppose that is part of the 'regular' DSL standard. I haven't seen (reported on this forum) non-standard upload speeds, though. In other words, it's either 128Kbps, 256Kbps, 384Kbps or 512Kbps (some even have 640Kbps), but nothing in between. Whereas, for downstream synch speeds, some people synch at 1Mbps, 2Mbps, 3Mbps, etc. when they cannot achieve 4Mbps.
