Apologies if this is old news, but my ADSL is so slow right now, it's e'ffing difficult to get around the forum to find info from others.
Recently installed ADSL 192/384 as part of Telkom closer option 4 bundle. Use my own DSL modem. Surecom EP-4704SX.
Initially, DSL seemed to work fine - nothing great thought and certainly not the speeds I expected or hoped for. (To me DSL is margionally quicker than 56k dialup!)
Lately, it's become almost impossible to browse the web. I've even diabled AV and Spy bot software to limit external factors during testing (I'm fairly PC literate being in the IT industry, so have hopefully covered most of the normal rubbish.) Checked registry to make sure no nasty startup apps were present. Laptop I am using is not greatest, but not exactly ancient either.
Tried phoning Telkom ADSL support, but I have better things to do with my life than wait for them to tell me that there are 'too many users on the network!' I did notice the following from ping tests:
Local sites like Iafrica.com, News24.com, etc.....+-25ms response (sounds right)
International sites like CNN.com, bbc.co.uk, etc....350ms plus response time
Oh and google.com gives me between 350 and 400ms right now.
Is this normal for international sites...? Perhaps there's some more tests I can before having to try Telkom idiots again?
