With all the hype about Telkom doing upgrades the question is what about customers who have been getting poor service and do not get stable lines today?

My line is through the Bonaero Park exchange and on the 10mbs roll out Telkom only was able to provide 6mbs at this exchange. As it has become more congested most now get a service between 1-3mbs and unstable lines. The area is showcased as the world class development hub for OR Tambo and yet we do not even get a decent broadband service?

Dark fibre has been laid and hopefully one day this will replace Telkom's inferior DSL service as many residents are crying out for a decent service.

But they question remains - why us Telkom creating hype about upgrades when they cannot even provide a decent service to paying customers! Why do the ISP's not take them to task or do they provide no better service?

Hi there,
It must be frustrating to have been updated and the result not what you expected.
I am in an older exchange area and not been upgraded yet (I have a 384 account at home) so am hoping that this month I will see a change.
You can though understand that Telkom and the update is being used as a marketing message to enable them to retain if not increase their user base. I am sure that when the Development hub for ORT takes off (no pun intended) they will increase the connectivity in the area.
Of course you don't have to wait till then but keep reporting to them that the speed is not what it should be.

Regards

Tim

Well that is the whole reason for MSAN installations that will shorten the copper loop and they are rolling out metro Ethernet network that should take care of the congestion at the same time so hope is there ,dont ask me where or when i dont know but i know they are busy with it.

Congestion has nothing to do with sync rate/line stability.

Water damage, or other damage to the copper is more likely.

MSAN deployment will help (by shortening the loop, as well as providing better information on line quality).
