I run a website for an organisation that has to send news items in. Up until now the photographs they supplied from their little point and shoots were shockingly bad to the point of unusable. Now they've bought an entry level Nikon DSLR and they're shooting 500 pics per event and choosing the best 20 and all of a sudden the stuff is great.

Right tool even in the hands of idiots... haha

I take photos at work and one day our secretary needed a photo and I didnt have my DSLR on me and had to bring it in the next day. She could not wait and settled for a crummy cellphone camera pic. SOme people cant even see the difference.

I wouldnt say its entirely not true that the camera isnt making a difference. The automatic mode on a DSLR is FAR more advanced at measuring and calculating than a point-n-shoot. So it probably exposes better, picks the proper subjects in the 9-or-more-point focus system etc. etc. Composition prob sucks, but quality wise I would expect it to get better with a DSLR.

In my experience, if you make something idiot proof. Then somebody will make a better idiot.

The biggest difference with a dslr is the shutter-lag, or rather lack thereof. Some people don't realise you have to keep a P&S still for a second or two after pressing the button.

In the days of film it would have cost an idiot a lot of money for those 500 shots :D
