Hi,

So I'm hoping that someone would be able to assist me. I searched a few forums but dont seem to come up with the answers for my setup.

So just int short - I have two PVRs

1x Explorer
1x HD PVR 2P (The fairly small black one)

I have a smart LNB. On the LNB there 4 outputs for Unicable and 2 for universal. From what I gather the universal are for the legacy decoders that use the 2 inputs from the LNB like thet HD PVR 2p. and all the new decoders just use the single Unicable from the LNB.

Previously before I bought the Explorer, the HD PVR was setup in the lounge, and had Extra/Dual view. So 1 channel in the lounge and the other 3 rooms could watch on either the second channel or watch whatever was playing in the lounge.

Currently, the DSTV now only works in the lounge with the explorer. I cannot seem to get the rooms to work.
There is the unicable to the explorer, and that works just fine in the Lounge. The universal, 2 cables go to the HD PVR, also in the lounge, and then theres a single cable out of the HD PVR, and into a 1-4 splitter(This is how it was previously setup) and to the TV's in each of the rooms. I cannot pickup anything in the rooms.

If I plug the HD PVR into the TV in the lounge, it works, so its not that its not activated or something wrong with the smart card, it seems to be something wrong with the extension from the HD PVR to the rooms.

I have tried changing some frequencies, I have tried running the extension only to 1 room, I cant seem to win.

Any assistance would be appreciated, tired of paying installers only to mess it up further.

Cheers
K

(1) On the LNB side of the decoder.

You could connect the HD PVR 2P to a Unicable port but that would require some changes to the networks settings on both the Explora and the HD PVR2P.

(2) RF distribution to the other rooms in the house.

There is only one way IF you want total control of both decoders from the remote rooms using TvLINK eyes.

Combine the 2 signals from each RF OUT port on both decoders using a simple T-piece, and feed the combined signal into the 1 x 4 SLX active splitter you currently have Input port.

Make sure each decoder is set to use a different UHF channel number as both will default to ch 63. Choose sat ch 63 and 61 or choose lower channel numbers if you have quality problems on the remote TVs. Set the decoders to PAL system I. Tune 2 channels on each TV one for each decoder to the correct UHF channel numbers and make sure TVs are all set to PAL I as well.

(3) remote Control via TVLINKs.

Set Explora to respond to mode 1, and ignaore all other remotes.
Set HD PVR to respond to mode 2 ( for convenience only) and set all other modes to ignore. DO NOT relay commands bertween the decoders as they are next to each other in the same room.

Let me know if it works.

1. DStv decoders are not reliable enough to guarantee that your recordings will always work. They require daily baby sitting and at least one a check every 24 hours.
2. SBRs are the most unreliable settings. MC just cannot maintain their EPGs with the required attention to detail to ensure the recordings will always work.
3. If the recording is really important to you always set a MR, just like you had to with a VCR.
4. Never set more than one recording consecutively on the same channel. The automatic buffer removal code will always fail, and you will lose either the end or the start of one of the recordings.
This again because of the unreliability of the EPG detail, and channel timing. Rather set a combined MR for both programs.
5. The same applies to consecutive recordings on different channels. There is no way out here. Try and find a repeat and record that rather for one of the recordings.
6. If you really want a better experience go and find an old record two decoder. They have a whole range of issues of their own but the number of failed recordings is over all less.
7. Get a life. TV is not the end an be all of life. Just let the decoder failures wash off your back.
8. Don't bother complaining to MC, they don't care. They will never care. Customer satisfaction is not top of their list of concerns. The only thing they are truly interested in is ensuring the advertisers are happy, and the content providers won't jump on them regarding copy right issues.
