Cape Town – MultiChoice is adding the Comedy Central channel to DStv's line-up from December 6 at 19:30.

The Comedy Central channel will be a uniquely packaged, or so-called bespoke channel for Africa but will contain TV hits such as South Park, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.

The channel's line-up will comprise stand-up and sketch comedy, satire, offbeat comedy TV series, classic sitcoms and specials.

Comedy Central which, will be available to DStv premium subscribers only on channel 122, will kick off with a one-hour special starring American comedian Jeff Dunham, followed by The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen special and two new episodes of South Park.

Big entertainment

"We are delighted to bring humour, smiles and laughter to viewers by adding Comedy Central to our existing portfolio," said Alex Okosi, the senior vice president and managing director of MTV Networks Africa.

MTV Networks Africa also runs the MTV, MTV Base and VH1 channels.

Helen Smit, M-Net's former head of local productions, was also just appointed as programming director for music for MTV Networks Africa.

"DStv is all about big entertainment and Comedy Central is a good fit for our platform," says Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice's general manager for content.

"Our DStv premium subscribers across South Africa and the rest of Africa will undoubtedly enjoy the unique combination of world-class comedy, mixed with local flavour."

Nice! Although the Charlie sheen roast is a bad way to start, its was very very terrible. Yay for Daily show though!

warning bells for anyone with DSTV

Why not Compact Subscribers? There biggest consumers?

Its a basic business technique to provide more perks to the more expensive packages so that people will opt for them. It makes sense to add new channels to the premium packages so that more people may be tempted to convert. Also logically rewarding lower end consumers the same as higher end consumers would be bad for business.

It may become available next year or the following year though, if multi-choice adds more channels to their bouquets.
