Hello,

I am using the DSD990 and I am so sick of this crap picture quality. I don't want to buy the PVR either just because of the scart connector.

So my question is: is it possible to use a Topfield decoder or something? If yes, how?

I mean it's ridiculous. The picture on my 50inch Pioneer Plasma looks so crap I get angry everytime I watch a movie

Please help!!

Thanks

If you take out your smartcard you will see something like KU version X.
If it is a version 2 card you will be able to use a Dreambox or Topfield decoder.
The version 2 smartcards are not subject to the decoder marriage problem , but any newer smartcard won’t work.
I use a PC setup and the ver 2 card works without problems but the ver 5 card does not clear the encrytion.
I am not so up to date with the Dreambox side of things and there may be a workaround allready.
Also found that the newer Irdeto encryption system have been comprimised by some Europian hackers a short while back. So there may be a decoder marriage fix as well.Like emulating the DSD box serial number or so.

What type of outputs does the DSD990 use? Exactly what issues are you having with the picture quality?

Thanks for your answers.

The DSD990 only has this stone age RCA output. Not even scart. And as far as I know the new DSD1110 doesn't have scart either!?!

What does DSTV actually think? I mean many people have plasma tv's already, RCA output is extremely ridiculous.

I don't know what to do. Right now I am watching Natural Born Killers on mnet action and it sux so badly. The quality is just so crap. I didn't buy a 90 grand plasma and then I have to watch this

Either way, I have to find a solution.

This is DSTV via plain RF cable from my PVR to my projector displayed at 118 inches diagonally directly onto the wall (daylight with curtains drawn). Haven't got around to getting a scart adapter or projector screen yet.

projector and RF cable? that is a big no-go as well!

projectors, plasmas, lcd's... need a proper video signal connection like hdmi or YUV cabel. everything else just sucks.

i know that dstv is generally bad quality already, but RF or RCA make it just worse

Can't see much of a difference between DSTV picture quality on a CRT or on a projector so I doubt any connection method is going to improve the picture quality of DSTV since the signal is inherently poor. Nevertheless I will get a scart adapter for the PVR when I get around to it, just not a priority right now :D
