DSTV and LG HDD recorder

I have a LG RH1999H HDD recorder, and would like to know if anyone knows how one would go about recording to it from DSTV. What especially baffles me is changing channels for timer recording. From other sources, there seem to be two options (for Tivo or PC TV tuner cards at least):

1) Autotune: Can one set more than one DSTV autotune item at a time?

2) IR Blaster: Would this be an option with my recorder?

Please help! Maybe I should have got a PVR, but I did not want to be limited to DSTV in case other options arose.

Was looking after a friends' house once and used his LG HDD Recorder to record a movie on DSTv. I forgot to switch it off for the 'timed recording' - was so cheesed-off when I got home and it didn't record the movie!

Even more irritating is when the recorder is set up perfectly, and the decoder decides not to auto-tune. What is the use of a feature, if it only works sporadically?

You sould of bought a Tivo, it automatically changes the channel using a IR Blaster. You don't need to know the times either, the tivo downloads the Guide Data via the internet, so you just select the program/movie, press record and you done.
