I would say call the installer. You should only loose signal in very heavy rain. Cable run can't be too long if it is only 2 floors up. Signal level sounds good.

Just some feedback on this.... we needed to get the installer to come back out as after those extremely strong winds the other day here in Durban we lost signal altogether. The decoder just kept scanning.
He came and said it might be the LNB that was gone. He replaced it with a new one (apparently it was a new type - HD he said). I was annoyed as we had only had the old one for about three months now but what can you do.
Anyway I am sitting here now, with the wind howling again outside, and I have not lost the picture once.
So either he deliberately installs crap LNBs the first time around or we just got a dodgy one. The new one with installation did cost us another R600!

Maybe it was not the LNB at all. Just bad installation first time round... Just a thought.

A thought that went through my head numerous times but how the hell do you argue it when you are not the one with the equipment. I did, however, ensure that I hung onto the old LNB... will not be allowing him the resell it if it was still fine! A money making scheme of note!
Erm, I think you need to clarify.
One should be strength/level while the other should be quality.

Never use a 60cm steel dish for a communal installation!
The best ones are the 90cm fibreglass ones like the Visiosat, less k@k caused by wind and rainfade etc plus it will last a few decades!

He said that it is not a communal. It is only for his flat... But yes, our Visiosats are the bees knees...

Agree with the LNB issue - my signal also went for a ball just after installation, ended up being LNB with loose connections. If you can - have the old LNB tested. If it is OK - claim your money back.
