So I want to run my DSTV dish cable to another part of the house. However, my roof is pretty steep and the roof is three stories up, so I may not want to risk doing it myself.

Just in case I chicken out, does anyone know a good installation company/guy who can do it quickly for me? It isn't a hard job for a pro, so looking for someone who won't rip me off. Any suggestions?

Why not run it in the ceiling?.. surely you can get into your ceiling?

Thanks :)

The thing is that I want to drop it down the chimney (never used the fire place) which goes to the room I am aiming for. This means I have to get onto my roof which is high up and steep.

So hoping I can get the old cable out of the ceiling easy enough. Although I think its running along outside, which mean I will need to source a ladder. I must really have a look :p

Just wanted to know in case I come up with an issue. Going to give it a go tomorrow.

I would very definitely suggest finding another plan other than the chimney....

5 years from now, you might decide to use the fireplace, and forget about the cable and cause untold chaos. If its in the ceiling, leave it there, but put in a splitter and run a new cable to the new room.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I've traced the current cable, it is securely fixed to the walls under layers of paint, both inside and outside the house. On the outside it runs the whole length of the house. Seems like an odd installation.

As I don't really feel like repainting and spending my day on a ladder, I'm just going to leave that one there.

Can I place a diffuser at the dish? And what is the name of the cabling I need to run to the decoder? Where is good place to go buy this stuff, any hardware store?

Where in the southern burbs?

Newlands.

You can get this cabling per metro at builders generally, around R3 p/m if I recall, it is coaxial cable, RG6u if I am not mistaken, but not sure.

It is also generally available in 100m rolls

You can also get it cheaper but you will need to shop around and there is also dodge quality
