DStv could soon change its password sharing rules

These tits have succeeded in getting the sharing sorted out. Tried to watch the rugby on our media PC, and our family was trying to watch tennis on a tablet out of town.
Only 1 screen allowed now, irrespective of what you use for the second screen. Now, a browser no longer works.

Sods.

I still think this whole "single stream" nonsense was just an easy way to free up bandwidth for the 4K streaming of the world cup :

MultiChoice Group will be ready to showcase the 2022 Fifa World Cup in 4K ultra-high-definition resolution, its CEO, Calvo Mawela, said.

Mawela, who was speaking to TechCentral following the publication of the broadcaster’s 2022 full-year financial results on Thursday, said the company has experienced “no challenges at all” in preparing for the 4K launch, and confirmed that the World Cup will be used as the launch event.

“We are ready for the World Cup to be available in 4K,” he said.

Yes I am sure me (along with others ) cancelling my subscription have helped free up bandwidth.

I'm staying in a guesthouse currently with free dstv, I only watched the F1 amd sunday and haven't out the tv on since. Scanning through the channels on sunday after the f1 I couldn't find anything watch amd then just didn't even bother to try again.

Lol...have you tried to stream DStv? It fails constantly. Just stops the stream for no reason, but if you fired up Netflix you'd be able to watch for hours.
It does this at 1080p and 720p quality levels. It's hopeless.
The compression artifacts on dstv is insane. It looks like a 90's emailed video clip.

I think therein lies one of DSTVs biggest problems. We're in the attention-economy - people devour content, but want content when they want it - not to follow some schedule, or browse channels to see what's currently showing.

Once you're used to browsing content, streaming, pausing etc, it would be hard to go back to TV schedules. DSTV has offline play (afaik?), but it requires planning, not just browse select and play for the main part.

Their other big problem of course, is that of reputation. Subscribers were demanding better bouquets years ago - many subscribers left at the 1st chance they had due to knowledge of being ripped off. People started to realise that "exclusive to DSTV" meant that the subscribers were paying high prices to limit their own choice as to where to get that content.

Indeed. I have found that DSTV now only appeals to a particular sector of the boomer demographic. Such as one of my family members who almost literally goes into withdrawals if her DSTV compact subscription stops working. Despite having a decent uncapped fibre line in her home she would prefer to have ancient content about obese people, hoarders and home renovations fed to her on a regular schedule than to have to go through the "trauma" of having to choose what to watch. Never mind the fact that most of the content on the Compact subscription is so old that it could probably be found on YouTube for free.
