I have just had the most bureaucratic out of body service experience from Multichoice! I had a small DSD decoder on Extraview which, upon moving, I gave to my ex-gardener. My though was that all I needed to do was to log into MyDSTV and ask MC to remove it from my account so that he could then subscribe separately.
Then follows this convoluted instruction to execute what should be a simple task from their on-line call centre rep:
"Please note that to transfer a decoder and its services onto another person’s account or name, you need to do a change of ownership process. Kindly attach the following documents to receive assistance.
· Proof of identification via a copy of ID or passport (as the new owner) and the ID copy of the other party.
· A letter from the Executor of the deceased estate or a Letter of Authority (in the event whereby the current owner has passed on).
· A completed change of ownership form (get it from one of our service centres or agencies.)
Please email all these documents to [email protected]. Alternatively take all of them to your nearest MultiChoice service centre or DStv agency"
Really!!! Have these guys also been advising Home Affairs on its systems? I have to get all that paperwork togther incuding visiting a service centre to collect a form and so on just to give away a five year old, unused cheap decoder.
Why is this not as simple as clicking on and delinking that decoder from my account on-line to release it to its new owner?
Wow, MONOCHOICE? Kings of burocrazy...

Epah, I ask that question frequently as I nightly switch over to Britbox, Netflix, etc, due to the paucity of good stuff on the DSTV channels. Sadly the news and sport are almost all that keeps me shelling out roughly R900 monthly for their endless repeats and diminishing channels. An unsubscribe threat that one day I will carry out.

Oh damn, i forgot sport was the reason they still hold so many hostage. Few more years and hopefully you can watch your sport online and be a happy man.

For R500 you can get a new decoder, fully installed.

Almost worth it.

Our sports bodies are totally beholden to MC and Supersport for their bread and butter - especially now that the stadia are empty. MC and SS have them in their hands like politicians. So, will that cartel allow us to see live streamed sport outside of DSTV and SS anytime soon? I doubt it.

LBXX, I thought I was offering my ex-gardener a good deal.. a decoder for free. Not a bureaucratic nightmare. Well there is one plus... at least MC has not ben earning any income from that decoder!! The last laugh..

There is no need to visit a service center.. the form can be downloaded form their website and it along with required supporting documents be sent to an email address.. if you are savvy enough, you can even complete the form digitally..

Here are the step by step instructions, including a link to download the change of ownership form:

Could the process be simpler..? Sure, but MC have their reasons for doing change of ownership this way..

You are being a tad melodramatic about this whole thing, to be honest..

Download the form, complete it, attach to email with supporting documents and send it and it's as good as done..

I am being melodramatic? Perhaps. However, I hate unnecessary bureaucracy (including being instructed to visit an agent when the form can be downloaded). Why must I get and be responsible for copies of other people's IDs for example? And so on. If MC require additional information (ID, proof residence, bank account, whatever) from the new subscriber let him be the one to provide that to MC, not me.
Just let me log-in, delink that decoder online and free it up for the new owner to sign up and use. That should be sufficient authority for MC.

The other option is to call them on th callcentre number and ask them to remove it from your account ( of which they can do instantly) then your ex gardener can go and register on his own via the callcentre or nearest agent ...change of ownership process is cumbersome

What is the current rate to get your decoder "opened" to all channels?
Hear from a squatter liver it's only R500 payable to the callout man ?

I chucked my old DSTV decoder into the electronic waste bin at my local recycler because of this convoluted process. Would have loved to have given it away, but couldn't be bothered to go through this idiotic process.

Perhaps you kept the power supply ?
Am hunting for 2 to power my 1131s but not available on the West Rand Krugersdorp area anywhere ???

This is indeed true. Had to do this a couple of times. Last time dealing with them was 2017.
