gonna get dstv soon and was just wondering about the 3 dishes one can get, metal-cheapest aluminium-mid and fibre most expensive. Just wondering is there any noticable difference between, cos then im just gonna get metal R199 installed.

I also stay in Cape Town. Had a fibre dish installed 1999, hasn't been touched since. I also installed a Elsat dish in 2006 and it's already rusting. The Elsat also loses the signal when it rains.

cape-town

I see. Former Capetonian myself (grew up in Fairways -- M5 was a major landmark ... lol)

Well if the cheap route suits your pocket then buy a metal dish for now.

I'm sure Cape Town installers offer special coating for the dishes to make them more 'rust resistant'. Do some research before you have it installed.

The worst you can do is have a cheap job done and pay more in future for re-installation or upgrades.

I'm assuming you're not going the HD route either (not much benefit over normal DSTV at this point)?

Maestro_za no offence or anything but are you coloured?(I'm coloured too by the way) because i associate fairways(back in the day at least) with coloured civil servants.

Metal should be good for a few years if you are not close to the beach. Just beware of who you get to install it @ R199. There is some very dodgy, big installation companies in CPT. They will charge you extra for all kinds off stuff.

The dishes in the sets on offer are the cheapest they could find, along with the other bits. Speak to an expert, buy it yourself, then get someone to install it properly. Don't let them leave until it has the BEST signal, not just ANY signal.

The cheap dishes rust and can even bend in high winds... go for something decent.

Haha seems like every kid who grew up in the lansdowne, wetton and fairways areas had teachers as parents.

I lived in Fairways(forest rd) for four years practically surrounded by my primary school teachers lol but for the most part I've lived in lansdowne(just off wetton rd), and now I'm moving to the other side of the train tracks where I'll make Kenwyn even more muslim than it already is. I do miss Fairways though, it was the only coloured that actually had foliage lol.
