Hi,

I have a new Explora with a Wifi box compliments of Telkom's FTTH promotion in my estate.

I'm new to the Explora (on a Compact DSTV package) and get confusing info as to what the point of the Wifi internet connection is. I get that it is used for all sorts of internet services like Catchup etc...

I'm not currently paying for the PVR function (additional R80) but i assume I need it for any of the internet services.
Is Catchup using data from the internet connection or via satellite like Box Office? Assuming Box Office is using satellite...
How much data does it use per episode? Same as a torrent of the same episode?
I've been told that if you are watching season 4 for example and you want to use catchup that it will download all the previous seasons and some say only the last 4 episodes?

i'll probably think of more things... give me time.

If you need to get a Smart LNB ... go to PACE in Botha Ave... R450 instead of R595 or R650 (HD Cabling in Centurion)

All Catchup/BoxOffice/etc material comes down via satellite. The only use for Wifi connector is to download Catchup series and movies that are marked as being downloadable (they don't fully download via satellite, just the basic descriptions).

As for data size, all downloads show you how much would be required to download.

seriously WiFi adapter was like an after thought,,, like they forgot to integrate the WiFi adapter , just my rant, sorry

What Brett said.

My Explora is close to my router, so I have it connected via a normal network cable.
The internet connection is also useful to remotely schedule recordings via the DSTV NOW app on your cell phone.

Unfortunately like you say, they don't give you whole seasons available for download/stream but at most I have seen 3 to 4 of the latest episodes. Streaming on my 2MB connection does quite a bit of buffering, but its also available to download and then watch once downloaded.
