I so luv the new dstv explora it's awesome, wanna get it before month end feb.
 
...and as soon as the markets flooded they will bring out the "new " one :eek:
 
My older one 2 recorder and 2 play has been giving issues since the launch. Coincidence I think not.
 
Didn't realise anyone could be passionate about a decoder.
 
Until I need a new decoder I don't see the point. The explora has less features that matter to me then my current hdpvr and it costs more... Go figure
 
Was in Makro today and the dstv guy try to punt me a special on the explora for R2299. So I said I already have the older HD PVR with pvr functionality enabled, but I hardly record and my pvr is never more than 10% full. His response "yes, the exploration has a bigger capacity so now you can record more". I gave him the blank look, turned and walked away.

The real compelling/unique feature/function of the Explora is Catchup (on steroids; presents a Netflix like interface with content coverart, categorisation & [episode]grouping) so one no longer has to watch DSTV content when it airs, but rather at a time that it suits you.

Which is still months behind.
 
I have both the ols HD PVR (where you can watch 1 channel and record 2) and the Explora,

and I must say I like the explora for the fact that it stores a hell of a lot more series, sports and even movies now on the DOD (Dstv on Demand) which is basically the only way I watch anything anymore also it does not only store one week worth of the series programs but actually puts them in folders so you can have three/four weeks worth of episodes of the same series in case you went away and missed a week or two.

However what I don't like about it is that it only has one recording channel, so if you set something to record straight after one another it seems to clash since the safety net clashes with the start and end time of the program finishing and the program starting.

Must say though that most of DSTV decoders are absolute crap quality though. I bought my Explora in November last year and I have already had to replace it once.
