Now I know the people manning the DSTV forums are bombarded with insults and comments day in and day out - what else do they expect? It comes with the territory - it is a job and not personal.
I have been banned and censored quite a few times on the DSTV forum. Last time this happened, I got a very personal message from one of the "MC's" telling me what a troll I was for asking all these "unwanted" questions about their content (?).
My latest reason for being scolded was enquiring about the practicality of us subscribers contacting the channel/content providers. The DSTV forum MC’s always (always) pleads innocence when one asks or criticizes channel content – being quite adamant that MC is not responsible for channel content and that subscribers should contact these content providers (channels) directly should one have a problem with content.
I have tried this a couple of times and the lack of replies was only met by those of DSTV/MC themselves.
My thoughts about this are as follow:
• I have no say at all in the channels being provided to me. MC decides which channels to buy.
• I can try and contact these providers, but it has been proven that they do not respond. When they do it is usually a stock answer or reffering one back to MC.
• I assume MC (accounting) has a more direct contact with these providers as they are invoiced by them and chose them in the first place. MC is not relying on the website “Contact Us” links like the rest of us are asked to do.
• If MC is unhappy with a provider - I can only assume they do not use the “Contact Us” links on the website (if one is available).
• MC do pay these content providers – Is this done without any service level agreements?
• Can a channel provider provide any level of service and expect payment (is MC’s hands really tied as they would want us to believe?)
• Who does MC think has more impact on these guys – the people paying them or the viewers indirectly complaining?
• If MC was an investment company – would we not have a say in where our money was being invested?
It seems that as with many an industry in SA, lack of ownership and responsibility is the way MC wants to play this.
Anyway – asking these questions gets you banned from the forum. It seems MC can spend our money as they see fit, it we do not like it, try and take it up with the vendor they decided to use.... crazy!
