I currently have a DSTV HD Decoder (not Explora), and want to add a second one for XtraView. I've been told to get a Twin LNB but that would need a 'heart beat cable' back to the first decoder.

Recently I read somewhere that the Smart LNB negates the need for a heart beat cable. Is this correct?

More importantly, would it work with two DSTV HD Decoders for XtraView? Or is this specifically for the Explora?

You can splice heartbeat over the LNB cable as far as I know using a diplexer at either end.. it basically sends the heartbeat over the same cable and splits / joins just behind the decoders.

you will still need the heartbeat cable, the Smart LNB negating the Heartbeat only works on the Explorer2
I would still get the Smart LNB though incase you do decide to get a PVR or explorer.
