My PVR HDMI port stopped working recently. The video and sound via the RCA connections still works ...but anything HD naturally looks quite bleh. I've had the decoder for just under 2 years now - it's the 'master' decoder in the dual view setup.

Any suggestions where I can take it to be swapped out or fixed while I wait? Google suggests Arial Excellence at Greenstone but they don't seem answer their phones?

Take it to multichoice, they'll replace it, apparently their agents will also do this but I've never heard of it happening

Thanks for your reply...

From their website:

4. Decoder Swaps and Testing. Swap fee will be charged if you do not have DCC.

I don't have DCC so could be in for a 'swap fee'. Multichoice in Randburg it is then.

Managed to get through to Aerial excellence ... no DCC = R510 to swop it :erm: Phone Dstv agents in Randburg - they say the same thing - R510 to repair/swop it cause I don't have DCC :erm:

That's half the price of a brand new one :wtf:

That's why it's best to just get the DCC

I have opted not to take out a DCC, beacause it is R35 p/m for the HD-PVR. With the swap-out costing R510, after 14 months you will have covered the swap-out fee. The OP has indicated that the decoder is about two years old. If he took out the DCC, by now he would already have paid R840. That is more than the swap-out fee. To me it just does not make economical sense to have it in place. But, that's just me.

The same could be said about any insurance policy. Some don't have it lucky though...

Not true.
That premium/benefit line is often way past the 14 month mark.
For example: car insurance, life insurance

Not the same at all! To replace a PVR will cost you at most R2500. To replace my car will cost (e.g.) R250000, which is a complete different ball game! For example, I happily pay my R5500 p/m for my medical aid, because I understand how important it is. I can do without a PVR for a while should it be damaged in any way.

Ok, for the sake of people shutting the hell up :D

The same could be said about some other insurance policies.

They seem to be selling new for around R1400 - R1500 at most places which would make the R510 swop out fee more err... economical

Makro has them on special for R1199 which turns the swop out fee into a rip-off :(

**** you Dstv

The swap out fee is ridiculous, I had to bring an SD PVR back a DAY after I had the thing for 3 months and I had to pay 500 bucks, this was last year this time though

Yeah I couldn't bring myself to go give multichoice R510 this weekend. I tried watching the football in "SD" (i.e. via RCA out) but man once you go football in HD it's one blurry road back to SD.

:(
