Hi All,

Is there someone who have a HD pvr connected to 2 hi definition tv's? My fateher in law can't seem to get this right and asked me for assistance. I don't have pvr, but I am sure someone here would know...

he wants to watch 2 diffirent HD channels in seperate rooms at the same time. Is that possible?

thanx

Hi

Yes it is possible!! What you need is the following for most cost effective solution : duel lnb , 6 way multi switch , 2 x hdpvr-2p decoders and set up extra view as an extra service. You will be able to view hd channels in seperate rooms in the same time, also possible to record 1 x channel in each room....

Cheers

Both MultiChoice PVR are single view only which means that to watch two seperate HD channels you need two HD PVRs in dual view. However, if you want to watch the same channel on two different HD TVs, you can buy a HDMI splitter to do this.

hey, that was quick...
He has a dual LNB.
he also has one pvr, so he has to buy another one? Does the extra view service cost anything? what is the switch for?
can he get away with watching 2 different channels at the same time in different rooms even if the one is std definition?

Extra view costs R50 or something like that.
The switch is to give you extra LMB's (split them).

He can get away with watching SD in the other room by getting a cheap SD decoder and getting extra view for that decoder as well.

What has your father tried so far, that's not working? To watch the same channel on 2 HD TV's I think the HDMI splitter is the way to go.
If your father has the PVR functionality then he is already paying the extra R65 a month so if he wants Xtraview it won't cost any more per month. He will still need another decoder, any kind, though. And there is an installation fee for Xtraview.
As for the 6 way multi switch. I have no idea. Mine just scratches the inside of my cabinet:D

check the tv forums to check extra compatability between decoders. extra view is extra R50 to premium sub last time i checked.

Yes, he need to buy extra decoder, extra view costs R65 per month extra on top of your subscription. The 6 way multiswitch is for splitting the cable from your dish ( remember there is two ) to the two decoders, he can view std definition in one room and hd in the other or std definition in both rooms ex....

I think he doesn't understand how to connect the second tv to the decoder to watch another channel on it. It makes sense to have another decoder. how else will he change the channel? But he will only be able to view SD on that second decoder? If he wants to watch HD on the second TV, he needs another pvr?

But why do they say in the adds: "watch 2 channels and record a third"????

ah, that makes sense. so it boils down to getting 2 x HD pvr's to by able to view different content on separate HD tv's

Thanx everyone.
