DSTV HD-PVR

The decoder is "recommended" by Multichoice to retail for R3999. Such a scam. There was talk of another HD-PVR rival brand being released but I forget the details and I've yet to see it in stores.

The current HD PVR is manufactured by Pace, a company situated in Europe. The new HD PVR will be manufactured by UEC, a local comany, the same company that manufactured the DSD9xx, DSD1110 and SD PVR decoders. The new HD PVR will retail at the same price, and concurrently, as/with the Pace HD PVR. The UEC HD PVR will operate exactly the same as the current HD PVR and will actually look more ugly, so it's actually not worth waiting for it's release.

I also read that On Digital Media (ODM) will launch standard decoders with HD capability and HDMI outputs! None of that voet-voet nonsense.

+1

Despite all the kark and nonsense the current HD PVR decoder gives i must say it's the best looking (have you seen the hideous box Sky has in the UK?). The current DSTV one matches and fits in with the latest HD tv's and entertainment systems sleek looks.

The UEC unit is manufactured by Altech (as in ALtech autopage or Altech netstar).
My SD PVR is a UEC unit.
The launch price of the HD PVR's were R2499, now all gone up. I was considering getting a used unit, cant afford it yet so still deciding.

as far as I know its R4000 for the decoder and R2000 for the installation. At this stage I do not think it is worth that price for a few channels shown in HD...

Try the 1 channel shown in HD...

and the few that are shown in WS....

(I wish MC would get with the program and broadcast at LEAST in WS)

won't the prices come down this year for decoders and such from multichoice when that new company thats being introduced next month ODM. im also wanting a pvr but i think i will wait it out and see when the company joins the market

That company isn't bring PVR's to market.. so you can keep waiting..

MC have this market taped for at least another 2 years...

at least the bills may come down per month from MC and they will introduce an option to choose what channels we want like ODM will be doing ;)

MY HD-PVR is driving me up the walls. Doesnt react to the remote(although LED's indicate that the signal is received). Whenever it was in sleep mode it starts up without sound and I have to change channels before the sound comes on again.

Considering the precious little content on the HD channel I seriously would not recommend it
