Hi Guys,

Been trying to find info on this.

I am looking at getting my own place at the end of the year. The places (flat) I am looking at have DSTV points already.

Now I know we need 4 cables for the HDPVR and these places have got one point.

Is it possible then to get HD in a flat?

Not unless the body corp can lay an extra cable to you. You need minimum 2 cables. I tried to get extra cable to my place but got response that the pipes was already full so no luck to me.

Check what setup the flats have, i just have 1 cable & HDPVR+1110 work perfectly. If they have a proper system converting signals then you will be fine, maybe just check if anyone there uses the SDPVR without any limitations

The only way you can have one cable to your HD PVR is with a SATCR LNB. Not sure of this is backwards compatible with a standard DSTV decoder.

Usually yes, but mine works with just the 1 cos my complex has a bunch of transponders converting signals. But then I have that 1 cable going into a multiswitch and then lines out to my HDPVR & 1110

Like has been said above, check with the body corp. Where I live, i had a single cable but found out that the communal satellite service provider, Elsat, did individual unit conversions as well, I have to pay an extra levy to rent the extra lines and the converter unit thingy they installed.

Just as an aside: With the SD decoder i had about 95% signal strength and only 70% signal quality. With the HD I have 100% signal strength and 98% signal quality....same satellite dish, different cabling.
