Hi,

I live in a complex where the DSTV dish is being used by 4 different houses. I would like to get DSTV HD. Will it be possible for me to add the extra required stuffs on the dish without affecting the other tenants?

Thanks.

if you get the smaller HD decoder ~R1800 ... all you need is a two way splitter (little silver box thingy) that takes the sat cable on one end, and two cables out the other end to go into your decoder. if you get the big HD PVR... you gonna need another 4 way splitter behind the two way splitter.

All in all you can run it from the one cable coming from your dish.

I was not aware of this. Will all his recordings work? I mean watch one and record a second?

...with some minor limitations. There are a few channels that are still on horizontal polarity (Crime & Investigation, amongst others) so if you're recording one of them you'll lose signal on the majority of channels for the duration. They are second-rate channels for the most part, so it might still be a viable solution.

EDIT

See this nice guide on this very forum. What you'd want to do is in post #2

The better option is to just get that second cable from the dish to your unit for full functionality. All HD channels might go onto horizontal soon (June/July), then you are screwed with recording while watching HD. They will need to upgrade the LNB to an 8-way, or install a multiswitch, for you to be able to get that second feed. Speak to a good installer.

Just get a 8 way LNB & get an extra cable to each house, then all 4 will have the ability to have PVRs/Xtraview etc
No need for any further upgrades later on when your neighbours see you HD picture & also want a HDPVR
