Hi Guys,

I am looking at getting HD DSTV. I live in a complex and we share a dish between 4 townhouses. My neighbour installed DSTV HD and had to get a seperate dish etc. Is it possible for me to now connect to that dish without having to do a seperate install?

Since its your neighbour, do you have a means to get 2 cables from his place? If so, and if he added a 2 -> 4 or even better 2 -> 6 multiswich all you need is to connect the two cables (one for viewing and the other for recording) to his multiswitch. Connect it to your PVR and then give multichoice a call to activate and voila! :)

This is assuming neither of you are using XtraView, in which case it gets slightly (not much) more tricky.

edit: You're going to have to explain to him that you'll have your own subscription which will be completely independent of his, even though you're connected to the same dish.

Bit more info regarding the shared dish and the neighbour's dish needed. Is there any multiswitches, what LNB's etc...

If your neighbour is not using the shared dish anymore, you can possibly route his old cable to your place, giving you a second feed for HD...

Agreed, this would be the more elegant solution. Didn't even cross my mind :)

Does the twin LNB send the different polarities on different cables? Never been able to get a straight answer to this. I had a single cable system and tried to split the signal for my HD PVR, didn't work: just installed new dish with twin LNB.

You cannot have both polarities on one cable, unless you are using SatCR or frequency shifting... So, yes.
