Perhaps you guys can give me some advice:

I have recently purchased a flat that is facing Table Mountain, I had DSTV at my other place and now I am sitting with all the equipment in a box. Can one mount the Dish [90cm] indoors facing the correct way and pick up a signal through the walls. If not is there anything I can pick up from Table Mountain side, I have two Sun Moon decoders that are not restricted like my DSTV decoder.

Any help would be appreciated.

The dish won't work indoors unfortunately.

Most flats had Satellites added on the roof and the cabling was routed into each flat iirc....
Check with the body corporate or something of that nature.

As far as I know the dish needs to be outside, so indoors won't work. Just phone a DSTV installations place, they can mount a dish just about anywhere these days, even in the smallest corner outside.

;)

Nope no Dish allowed on the building due to a body corporate ruling trying to get that overturned but that could take forever.

Does the building not have a communal dish on the roof or anything like that?

The building is 12 stories high [I live on the 2nd Floor], on the one side there is a huge Renault Billboard that dominates the top four to five floors, right on the top there is a satellite transmitter but for telecommunications this area is cordoned off and you cant place anything there.

Guess I have to resign myself to not watching the Disney channel anymore

Easy

Sponsor them your dish.

Have it mounted where ever they decide and share the signal to all flats.
The other people will just need a decoder and a Smart card. 1 Dish Can't be an eye sore

You could partner with a neighbor on the "right" side of the building to install a dish and pvr/dual view in his window maybe. Then share the costs 50/50 and use a wireless modulator/repeater thingy to pick it up on your tv with bunny ears or something. Of course, you would not be able to change the channels, unless you can get a cable covertly across to your side...

EDIT: Pitbull beat me to it. Bastard...

Our flat block has some dishes on the roof and a communal cable.

I just wonder if DualView will work on that cable as well...

No need for Dual view

Just a few Splitter Boxes and 1 Dish.

Every person brings their own decoder and Smartcard

We're 2 people living in the same flat...

I don't really want to watch my brother's crappy sports channels, so we either need 2 decoder + subscriptions or DualView.

Obviously DualView will be a LOT cheaper.

So, does anyone have any idea whether it will work?

I heard that you need 2 wires coming from the dish for DualView, is there any truth in this?

The sat signal is usually line of site, so inside is out.:D
Sometimes you can get some stray signals that reflect off of buildings or the mountain. I read somewhere that a varsty professor had rigged some repeater unit on the mountain in order to get DSTV in Llandudno.

Our neighbour points his directly at our wall instead of free sky, so there is always hope!

As for your aerial, try using one of those balcony portable ones. They can't stop you putting it there.
