The biggest market, I still don't see the obsession on reporting the highest tier dropping. You don't measure the success of VW on Lamborghini sales

Very different market though, the top offering of sports is very popular even though so pricey for many.

As for the obsession you mentioned - just clickbait here, some sort of agreement in the MyBB mainstream. Must be.

How long do you think it will be before an increasing number of people start getting their sports fix from different sources? This trend seems to be on the rise.

Yep, but too many are still scared of exploring the "tech-overwhelming" online seas. How many of the majority have access anyway beyond their phones?

This, overwhelmingly this.
The general public in SA are thick. And that's a fact. They can do Facebook no problem but when you ask them to set up banking beneficiaries to pay their rent etc, they go all blank and want to do Cash Sends because that's all that can fit in all four corners of the head.

Some also just like being able to turn the telly on, and something is on. Not having to spend 30 minutes looking for something to watch, I mean that's like what 182 hours a year?

I give Canal+'s DStv about 10 to 15 years.
After that the satellites are getting old anyway, will it be worth replacing them?

MultiChoice was planning on unbundling DStv a couple years back making sports an add-on not standalone like the entertainment offering. You'd find sports lovers would fork out R400p/m and soccer lovers R400p/m.

I think they'll always be a DStv but what could happen is that most of the international content may cease to exist and Canal+ turns DStv into a promotional window for their content in Europe and Africa.

Yes, but wasn't a plan, just an investigation. They featured the details on this forum.

Hopefully Canal+ will look at it again.

I can't see Canal+ going that route, it's a staple main factor of the still successful service , unless that interest starts to fail more. Sport alone could keep it alive.

I've seen it within their operations in Africa what MultiChoice sees as value with Mzansi Magic and Moja Love Canal+ sees with TravelXP and W-Sport so there's a fusion of that on those platforms. It's the only way I can see DStv surviving its sort of similar to what Disney Channel and National Geographic have with Disney+.

Africa can be surprisingly different from SA. Even some of their DStv channels are on a different package value - examples: Nickelodeon & BBC Brit - both offered on lower packages as well in Africa.

Even our poor areas seem to have much more tech sense here.
