Hi, if I don't have a HD decoder and get a HDTV, will I be able to watch in widescreen even if it's not HD?

Yep. Still got my trusty SD PVR playing through coaxial to my 52" Full HD TV. 640x480 is the way to go ^_^

MM1 will display SOME movies in WS even on an old SD PVR from what I know...

I'm not sure I understand your question fully. The are a few channels on DStv that broadcast in wodescreen: BVN, MM1 (most of the time), BBC News and Animax. The other channels are broadcast in 4:3 format so those will get stretched on your HDTV.

You can watch widescreen through a standard decoder as well. Press Menu>Advanced Options>TV Installation>Enter code: 9949>Aspect Ratio>16:9.

and... since the last software update, just press 'shift' and then 'tv guide' to cycle through the different aspect ratios on the decoder once you've set your tv to either 4:3 or 16:9 as detailed by BLIXEMPIE.

What use is that when only a few channels are broadcast in widescreen anyway.

My decoder is set to 16:9 but like I said earlier, only MM1 and the couple other channels actually show in 16:9, the rest of the channels still stretch the 4:3 picture and look crap.

Ahhh! the essence of Multichoice. Things work for the bare basics, but everything else is crap!
