DSTV - low signal quality plz help

I dont recall any issues on Animal Planet or BBC's, so what would your advice be?

Interesting, thought the HD channels were DVB-S2 (MPEG4) from the start?

Yep, me too?

As I understand it, DVB-S is normally QPSK with MPEG2 stream, and DVB-S2 is normally 8PSK with MPEG4 stream? I know its not that simple, but I thought that was the general usage.

Edit: Ahh, okay Thanks Quantum Theory.

Yeah but i dont know which is faulty if any.

SatCR is not the best way to do a HD/XtraView installation. It is a solution for guys who can't get 2 cables to a decoder etc... I work for Space TV, so I would be happy to sell you one, but I'm telling you to rather stick with the twin + switch.

Ok, so my options would be to get an installer to check the alignments or get the new LNB and multiswitch to see if that works first ?

Get an installer to check the installation and to tell you what needs to be done. LNB/switch problems was just a guess. Which area do you stay in?

Quantum Theory, can you recommend a good quality twin lnb?

Humax?
Elsat?
Modak?

Just an update. I thought that dish alignment = signal strength and signal quality = LNB alignment. Its not the case.

I went and got a new LNB from SpaceTV, wasnt a lot so i thought why not try this, installed it and same issue, couldnt get the signal quality above 20% or so. I then tried fine adjustments to the dish and it went up to 100% ;). So the so called accredited installer didnt do a proper job initially. anyway sorted now, thx for the guys who advised...

If LNB alignment is out, you will have signal level drop on certain channels and quality drops on all. If dish allignment is out, you will see both quality and levels drop.

Strange that it was only affecting a single transponder frequency. Glad you got it sorted.

Hello guys,

I hope you can help me. I recently moved to Alberton in complex. I have an DStv Explora. I have connected it to the provided wall points (two) via the latest DStv Switch. I do get a signal BUT, not all channels, especially HD, are showing. They complain about weak signal. I have observed that indeed the signal is weak. Also, Catch-up content has not yet been downloaded to my Explora (this is not a new Explora. It was working 100% with a SLNB when i was in Eastern Cape). I tried changing signal frequencies and at one point i received all the channel BUT in SD.

Is there something that needs to be done to the dish? i am not aware of any complaints form my neighbours. I share the same dish setup with three other people and i am not sure if they have an Explora or are experiencing similar issues. Any advise?

thanks

A week ago my LNB was stolen so i bought a new one but now it has me stuck on installation wizard step 4, please help
