Is it just me or is the DStv menu ***?

I mean the i-plate hasn't changed since my Pace 500 and the colours are terrible. Same with the DStv touch menu. Another small thing that bugs me is the way channel names are displayed "Disc, Boom, Hall, Cart, AnimP".

Maybe it's just you? OR

Why don't you go to channel 99 arround there and try updating for new software could be that urs is out-of-date.

Yeah it is sh1te, wonder if anyone can tell if the PVR one is any better.

My personal favourite (sarc.) is the lineup at the bottom (on "i"). Why, oh why can we only see the next program and not the next few? Really useful, when the current program ends in 1-2 hours, and is followed by a 5-10 minute filler. Gives one NO IDEA what follows.

The PVR one hasn't changed much, it is a bit better.

I made a suggestion on the PVR forum on dstv.com but they said they can't see it changing in the near future.

The PVR interface is pretty much the same as the current interface, it does introduce a bit more transparency but it using the same style as exiting decoders. Have a look at the "PVR viewers guide" for some pictures.

If you are after a better interface then why not get a TiVo, even DSTV staff have admitted to it being the "best in the world" :)

For some screenshots of what the TiVo interface looks like as well as some of the features offered have a look at the TivoZA "Quick Tour". The TivoZA site contains all the information needed about how to get a TiVo as well as how to set one up in South Africa.

Just heard from a guy at Ellis that they've been having so many problems with the PVR they're working on the next rev. Can anyone confirm? Apparently they're experiencing hdd problems and over heating.

Again this is pure hearsay so if anyone can confirm this?

Yeah I ahve researched it, but to be honest I'm a lazy bastard, and don't feel like the extra PT of searching Ebay etc etc. Don't suppose you have one lying about.

There are a couple of guys on the TivoZA forum who are bringing in extra units to sell locally. Have a look at the "Trading Post" for who is selling as well as to request a unit. cooley is bringing in 13 units so he may be able to help you out.

Have had no problems with my PVR neither have people I know who also got one - minor bugs like typing the name of a show on the time based recording option does not show until 'OK' is pressed.

p.s. - TIVOZA - I know about series record on TIVO so you need not explain...!;)

HAHA :D The "Quick Tour" provides a full description of what Season Passes are and why they are so great.

Season Passes aren't the only feature the TiVo provides that the Multichoice PVR doesn't. You also have:
  • 30 day program guide
  • Streaming recorded shows and/or live TV to a PC or XBox
  • Backup recordings to DVD
  • Wishlists where you can search and record shows based on Actor, Director, etc
  • Web Interface: allows full management of you TiVo as well as allowing you to schedule recordings over the internet
  • Suggestions: TiVo records shows it thinks you may like based on your viewing habits
  • Oops, almost forgot to mention the great Interface which is what this tread is about after all

As with most things people who don't have problems don't make that much noise but to see the many problems that have been reported have a look at the PVR forums. I'm not out to bash the PVR, I think with time Multichoice will end up offering a good unit but I just don't think it's there yet.

True.

But, as with so many things, people do not know what is out there and therefore do not compare the second rate offerings with what is a good product. (I have neither a PVR or Tivo - not worth it for me seeing as I watch 4 shows a week...). However, the point is that threads like this and the forum you mentioned slowly but surely mount the pressure on companies to provide world c lass, first rate products - so "Keep up the good work!".
