Hi there all,

I have seen DStv mobile work on a Nokia N96 and tried to get to work on the iphone, but when i send the text to get the link nothign happens.

Has anyone gotten it to work ?

here is the article...

ultichoice has unveiled the DStv Mobile subscription service on Vodafone Live.

Vodacom users will be able to stream 11 channels to their phone using 3G technology. The channels are: Supersport Blitz, Supersport Live, Channel O, Trace TV, CNN International, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, DStv Events, E Entertainment, Africa Magic and SawSee (devoted to movie trailers).

Subscribers will also have access to videos from channels such as M-Net, kykNET and Vuzu, Multichoice revealed in a statement.

The service will cost R59 a month or R19 a week, and additional data charges will not apply.

According to TechCentral, the decision was made to use 3G technology as Multichoice has yet to receive its mobile broadcasting licence from the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA).

To subscribe, simply SMS 'DStv' to 31116.

Additional data charges will not apply? so how does vodacom make money out of all this streaming video going on on their network?

I read somewhere on this forum that streaming DSTV via iPhone is not suppoted, at least for now.

Quite a lot. But I take it the bitrate is quite low, since this is for regular phones which have tiny screens.

Vodacom are the ones charging for the service not multichoice. So I would imagine Vodacom only transfer some of that fee to Multichoice.

well even if multi-choice make 50% of the deal - that's only R29,50.

I don't think it's gonna be as good as it sounds then - multichoice wouldn't do it - probably just a few clips you can view, and not a live stream....

Important words there are "Vodafone Live". Which is not on iPhones, to the best of my knowledge. I know it's on some Nokias.

So I strongly doubt it will work on iPhones.

And anyway, with that completely useless range of channels, who would bother with it?

You use the vodafone live apn. It's nice to get the weekly one so you can watch live rugby or something if you're away from the tv!

It's a feature :P

So will it work if you change your apn ? Can you change to a vodafone live apn ?

I want to get the service for the times i am not near a tv to watch sport on the weekends.

As far as i know you are limited to 45min if you are on the weekly subscribtion and 180min per month if you are on the monthly subscribtion.

Ah, there we go - I knew it was too good to be true!

so basically, you can watch an average of 6 minutes per day? Wow!
