You still need a valid tv licence please

South Africans are not paying their TV licences – but new laws could change that

I think this is it. Previous owner had the standalone decoder and I have Explora 3.
Then you'll need one of the new smart lmx based LNBs.. maybe just also check that the existing one isn't suitable already and that the cable hasn't been connected to a universal port.. the explora needs to be connected to one of the 'smart' ports..

I only have one incoming port on the explora or are you referring to the LNB?
The Single port Universal LNB used with the older decoders will not work with an Explora 3 decoder.
The technology is completely different. You will need to get one of the SLNBs.

The latest one is the LMX 502x, where x stands for the manufacturer or make. It is a dual-port device and you might only use one port for the Explora 3.

However, typically, even you were to change the LNB, the installation would have to be checked for alignment because these newer decoders are so poorly designed, that they only work IF the signal quality is correct.
Your best bet would be to get an installer in to change the LNB and verify the antenna alignment and the cabling.

Thanks everyone, the gent did the LNB and will be replacing the tiny stainless dish for a new one early next week. We're back on.
The tiny SS antenna replaced with a bigger SS antenna? What will the size difference be?
What is the dia of the existing one?

90cm dish is recommended for HD broadcasts. I have 60. It'll work but I aint taking chances that it goes down when watching F1 lol.
You are right there. The bigger the antenna the better those crappy Exploras work. 90cm is the minimum size.
But look after it if anywhere near the coast. That 60 cm SS antenna makes for a really good skottel braai!
