DSTV new Single view HD DSD4136(4U) decoder 5.1 surround via SPDIF.

Hi, All.

I want to get the new DSTV DSD4136(4U) decoder and connect it to my LG HT904SA home theater and get Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.

The problem is that the decoder only has two RCA (L+R) and one SPDIF outputs and my home theater has two RCA (L+R) and one Optical inputs.

How do I connect the DSTV SPDIF output to the LG Optical input?

I have the same problem. Does the HT support HDMI throughput? Else there might be some type of adapter out there for Spdif to Optical but it would probably cost an arm and a leg.

No, the HT doesn't have an HDMI input port.

Am I missing something huge here? What's the problem? You buy a optical cable and plug it in, SPDIF and optical is the same thing, different name, what am I missing?

The output on the decoder is S/PDIF coaxial digital (looks like RCA) and the input on the Home theater is TOSLINK® digital (optic fibre). I think the one was designed by Sony and Philipps and the other one by Toshiba.

Yah, SPDif stands for Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format.
That item in your post above at Sybaritic looks like it might do the job. Perhaps pop them an email to confirm?

Optical and TOSLINK is the same thing. Digital coax and SPDIF is the same thing. That is what you are missing...

That is for the decoder only. The R799 is the regular subsidised price, which includes the installation to 1 point. No way Kalahari is selling it for R450 installed.
