I have an issue when I cast DSTV Now on my Android phone to my Google Chromecasts.

After a few minutes it buffers and I need to reconnect again. Sometimes it work great and then suddenly it happens again. Now what I discover was during this hanging process my internet line is maxed out until I stop the cast process and starts over. Now this is only happening on the DSTV Now app. Netflix and Showmax no problems.

I have a Asus ac68u router and the Chromecasts is 2 and 3 with the latest firmwares loaded.

Just wondering if there is other people experiencing the same or suggestions.

Change the streaming quality under the 'more' settings. Lower the quality and test again.

mine does exactly the same. never have this issue when i cast DSTV from my pc, so doubt it is linked to the streaming quality.

Chromecast uses its max available quality when casting.
The only method of lowering the streaming quality is via the app that is used to cast.
If it works on your pc and not your phone, it could definitely relate to the streaming quality.
I have a crap slow Xiaomi phone (low spec) and I have zero problems with DSTV now.

What I discovered was that even if you change the quality lower in the DSTV Now app makes no difference at all. The quality even on the screen looks still the same.

I thought maybe it is some wifi setting on my router causing this but no luck.

Was thinking if a Android TV box might solve this issue, because this is annoying...

Increasing your Internet connection speed will most likely be your only fix.
If the DSTv now app doesn't apply the streaming quality settings now, it won't do it either on any other Media Solution/DLNA device.

i also lowered my settings to the minimum. made no difference, still freezes within minutes. i have a 200Mbps fibre line. what do I need to increase my internet connection speed to? can't believe it needs to be faster than what I already have

It could be due to many reasons.
I'm sharing the basic troubleshooting methods. Try it as well with only one Chromecast on and connected at a time (if you have more than one like the OP).

I have Telkom 4G and it works fine for me.
Edit: You can also try to uninstall the app and reinstall it.

Edit2: Tested it without casting and changing the quality. I get the same quality without casting and while casting:

I am also not sure it is bandwidth related. What I read was that there was a problem with chromecasts which after a certain time will flood your wifi network but Google fixed that problem long a ago.

I also tried different routers just to be safe, but still happening. Not sure if it is wifi bands related, but then again this is only happening with DSTV Now. So maybe a compatibility issue between DSTV Now app and the Chromecast.

I have the same problem as OP. I have a Chrome Cast and it keeps freezing/buffering at random times when using the Dstv Now Android app but works 100% fine when casting from my laptop using chrome. I have a 50Mbps fibre line and all other streaming works fine at high quality.

^^^ Yes, I can confirm this - same scenario with "live" tv.

DStvNow app needs a revamp.

Same issue here. I use a chromecast 1. Definitely not a bandwidth issue. It's the DSTV app itself. Will fiddle around and advise if I can find any solutions.

Also got the same issue only on live tv.

Yip same here, no problems with casting Youtube or Netflix. It only happens with DSTV Now.

I have realised what causes the problem!

It is location based!

Welcome to Africa!

Same issue - Using Chromecast 3rd Generation on Fibre line with 150 Mbps WiFi router - DSTV app is the only one that does that.

When it is happening, it buffers and then the audio and video images are out of sync (Audio is then from a few minutes ago).

It is also erratic - sometimes it can work for hours.

I get the impression that this could be related to capacity issues at DSTV that causes the buffering and synching problems.

But then, this is AFRICA !

I noticed the lag/sync issue too.
I just change channels quickly and back to what I'm watching. After about 2 times it equalises.

Note, I'm on LTE. It should actually be worse for me than you on Fibre.

Some observation : While there was Stage 2 load shedding in the country yesterday, the DSTV App Chromecast streaming was working 100% for hours. (whilst I had power of course ), which confirms my theory that it related to a network or server capacity issue.

The stage 2 load shedding obviously reduced the potential number of streaming devices, thus freeing up capacity.

2 years later - upgraded my WiFi to a 5 Ghz channel (which the 3rd gen Chromecast can see). Have the full speed of my fire available on the WiFi. All apps works 100% - just DSTV app that does not stream well. Freezes up every 1 minute or so. It has become worse and unusable.

I can confirm this, had the 1st, 2nd and using the 3rd gen for a while now. Have a 200MB fibre line. All other streaming works without cutting out. DSTV now is tue only app doing this. It is quite frustrating. Some days, no issue. Other days, it disconnects every 3 minutes or so.

Also think it is a compatibility issue between the cromecast dongles and DSTV now.
