Hi all

Has anyone been able to successfully use DSTV now on a 1st gen Fire TV Stick?

I am able to sideload the app, but on launch the screen goes blank, then returns to the home screen.

Any suggestions would be greatly welcome. I've side loaded the latest version from the play store - should I perhaps consider an older version?

Thanks in advance

Only thing that might help is custom firmware with Google Widevine support(if it exists).

Hi,

I found a very easy way.
Use the "Dowloader" app (preloaded on new generation) or download the ES File explorer app from the amazon store (Silk might work, but is not yet available for new gen sticks).

But first,
enable Developer options for your Fire TV.
Press Home button - Settings - Device - Developer options - enable both "Apps from unknown sources" and ADB debugging

Now open the Downloader App.
First go to Settings and enable "APK Auto install" and JavaScript

Now type the APK Download link in the Browser:

https://apkpure.com/dstv-now/com.dstvmobile.android

It might be necessary to click the "If the dowload doesn't start CLICK HERE" link.

Once dowloaded, you will be prompted to install (if your Downloader settings is set to APK Auto-Install)

Enjoy

Hi - just did all of the above and managed to download the app but when I open it it says I need google play which is not supported by the device. Any way around this?

You need to install Google Play Services for Android TV.

https://www.apkmirror.com/ has the most up to date versions and seems to update daily. You can use a sideloaded Google Browser or the AFTV browser in the Downloader App (enable JavaScript in settings) that is provided in the Amazon Firestick Store.

1. search "Google Play Store". Ensure you download the version that explicitly states (Android TV) in the title which might be on page 2 or 3 of the results.

2. search and download "Google Play Services for Android TV".

Sideload those apps, and DSTV Now app should work after installing the above.

EDIT: Scratch all that. Seems things have changed recently: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/941799-DStv-Now-only-works-on-official-Android-TV-boxes/page3

Thanks Roger. Will check out that thread and see what I can do. I’m not very tech savvy - I see the term sideload used quite a bit. What does this mean and how do you “sidelaod” something?

Hi everyone
I finally found a way to watch dstv now on the firestick or fire tv
You will need to use silk browser and go to the dstv now page on the browser
Press the button with 3 lines on the fire tv / stick remote whilst you on the dstv now page on silk browser
Then click request desktop site
Log into DSTV now on the website
Then it emulates the website as if it was on desktop and lets you watch without hassle
If you do it without clicking request desktop site , it will think it is mobile and will not let it play so make sure you click that request desktop site
Once you log in it will be like on desktop so you use the cursor to navigate and it plays content on the fire tv/fire stick!
Hope it helps out
