Home sweet home :)
So DSTV Launched their app onto LG Tv's a week ago. Anyone been using it? Feedback?

We are running 20mbps Fibre with Mweb and everything else works perfect, Netflix, youtube can stream 4k without any buffering or delays, Showmax streams perfect except for maybe once every few hours that it wants to buffer midway through.

DSTV Now, seems to 99% of the time buffer for 10 seconds, play for 5 seconds, buffer for 10 seconds play for 5 seconds. Then when things go worse 'something went wrong' and you have to go out and back in again.

I can understand I may need faster internet for DSTV than netflix due to compression and all that, but even when switching to LTE which has faster speed than the 20mbps it does the same, so doubt problem will be fixed with 100mbps fibre or even 200mbps... anyone have some ideas?

I only installed it during the week and will be using it on the weekend to watch rugby, will let you know. I have TELKOM LTE so speeds range

Don’t bother with that App. I also have a 20mbps fibre line and having same problems as you. They shouldn’t have released it so soon. Maybe with next update the issues will be sorted.
What I’ve noticed is that with Live TV it plays well, and only buffers on catch up.

Streams fine for me on 50 Mbps fibre, but quality is schit and so is the user interface.

They should have used a grid layout for all the channels, with vertical scrolling - as it is on an Android TV box. With a single line and horizontal scrolling, it takes forever to get to where you want to go...

i find the layout and quality stunning, seems full HD basically. channels are categorised quite well but yes even a list of channel names would be cool, doesnt have to even have picture, can just have a place to type in channel number even and find the channel itself. but for now needs to get it working smooth before they bother with UI changes.

Horizontal scrolling is fine when you're looking for content that's categorised, as it is on Netflix.

Not so much when you're looking for a specific channel. Which is why the layout on the Android TV app works better - you can get to channel 300-whatever very quickly without bothering to select a category first, and then scrolling horizontally.

As for quality, trust me it's bad. Especially when you've just watched something in HD on Netflix, let alone 4k...

The layout and the quality is okay. They just need to fix the app soon.

My Lit Box does the same. Buffer then play 5 sec then buffer. So i think its a dstv problem

I had a slightly better experience on the lit box compared to the smart tv app (samsung). Catch up has become unwatchable and certain channels on live tv freeze or get into a weird loop where the same 5/10mins plays over and over.

Speedtest - 16.88...watched the 1st half of Blue Bulls vs Pumas just now and no buffering or any issues in the 40 minutes

My LG TV buffers at 30 mbs fibre also. It works perfectly on my Samsung tv with no buffering. LG customer care is terrible. No help. Samsung live chatted and fixed my issues after midnight. Only Netflix and YouTube works well on lg. Apple TV and Amazon is also terrible yet works fine on Samsung. Problem is with LG and not WiFi speed.

Try using the ethernet port, if your TV is equipped with one.

Apple TV is 100% on my LG, but wont buy a subscription. I took up their 3 month free trial, and the content is kahrk.
