In recent light of Mweb's shaping on the uncapped offering I feel we need to discuss
how bad this service has degraded since the introduction of DSTV on demand ....
Any thoughts if its due to the fact that the user base has significantly grown when I signed up or DSTV on DEMAND cause total destruction or disintegration of the service in general.

Anyone else notice this and your thoughts would be appreciated.

Ive experienced this degrading in service since the whole Seacom Repair. Ever since then it wasn't the same. Had to make alternative plans to maximize my 4MB uncapped

Ya well, everyone here is #1 going to accuse you of pirating and to stop doing so, #2 they are all happy to only be able to utilize 50% of their respected bandwidth efficiency for legit everyday internet usage, #3 going to throw 'it's a shaped account' in your face when in fact the wrong protocols are being shaped to hell my MWEB and not the things that should be shaped. Go figure!

I'm all for maxing my ADSL account - afterall I'm paying for it ...

I manged to do over a terabyte on Mweb before the user base climed on. Moved to AXXESS uncapped and its up to crap.
Seems like most Seacom providers are acting up.

DSTV On Demand servers are locally hosted. So I seriously doubt that it has a effect on international.

I've noticed very little degradation lately. Browsing and mail is smooth and fast, Get 3.46 on speednet test to London, Latency 286. My son uses the same Lan (3 PCs) wirelessly connected and speeds reasonable. He downloads quite heaviliy (+- 120gb permonth) and says he gets about 300kb/s depending on how many downloads he has going simultaneously. So to me its worth the 4096 uncapped.

I believe there are users who are having trouble with their Mweb uncapped experience but I KNOW (myself included in this group) that there are users happy with the service. In a case like this you cannot just categorically say the service doesn't work, because the proof is that it does work for other people using it. It would be best to actually have a look at WHY it isn't working for those people having problems. How can we try to resolve and ultimately improve the service if we don't determine the problem areas and report them to the service provider.

I see a lot of complaining but I really don't see anything translating to action, either working towards addressing the problems or especially those constantly complaining moving to other services. When Afrihost started with their non-sense I moved over immediately. Why would you sit (and pay) for a service you are constantly bad mouthing?

Well let me clarify ... this doesn't work for me then. The service (for me) was brilliant but deteriorated and still is for other paying customers out there. I have loaded a few requests for Mweb to have a look at WTF is going on and recieve arbitrary feedback. I have since then moved to AXXESS and running both account to see which is better. So far both providers are shaping very heavily.

JvanD you went about it the logical way. That's what I would have personally done too, but I've noticed a lot of people sitting on the forums complaining about Mweb but still using the service. It just properly confuses me. If you're really unhappy, look for other solutions.

I think many users are deterred from jumping quickly because of the "one months notice" cancellation policy. Affording two accounts at the same time is not easy for them. It's sneaky but many other ISPs do the same.

Or it could be because all the other providers have nothing but complaints, talking about the IS product.

How is that "sneaky"? Most things in life are subject to a period of notice, including jobs, property leases and many more. I don't hear too any people complaining that having to give a month's notice on a house rental is "sneaky" in any way.

Also, people are aware of the terms of the agreement before signing. If they felt it was "sneaky" then they shouldn't have signed up for the service. It's not like they hide the fact that it's subject to a notice period.

Maybe I have should said "sucks" instead ;) It is not sneaky in terms of not being upfront, but it sure feels sneaky when the service for an individual deteriorates and they didn't expect to be stuck paying for a BAD service for another month.

you do know that international traffic doesn't just magically arrive at your pc once it "crossed the border" into RSA ?. it still goes through the local grid to your location once it comes in from the landing points. if the local grid is ****ed/congested you will get slower speeds.

this is one of the main reasons why we have "slow" internet in RSA is because of your logal grid and the monopoly that goes with it; hence companies laying their own fiber so they are more and more less dependent on telkom.

Maybe that's because you have to pay for the whole month. I canned mweb after 2 days, on the 4th of this month. Can still use it till the end of the month, and will keep on complaining till then :)

Just letting you know of my MWeb experience. I have had a great time with them. The first week was topnotch, and I wasn't feeling any shaping at all. But 3 days ago, I was being shaped on torrents and NZB to 100KB/s each so at a push I could hit 200KB/s. But luckily I found a way to bypass Level 7 packet filtering and now torrents are maxing 24/7. I don't complain, I just find ways to get the system working for me. But I do believe everyone has the right to complain about inferior service.

I just wish the parties involved would actually listen.

They won't listen, they don't care... it's like a monopoly, except not mono :D
Ive experienced RETARDED performance and unusability since seacom/dstv on demand too, and as much as I am against torrent illegal criminal theft, I agree that one should get what is paid for.
Fair is fair. If mweb wants to make promises, they have to keep it. That's the only sucky thing about big corps, they get to do wtf ever they want.
