DSTV on demand - where's Carte Blanche

so this dstv on demand. is it stuff that's readily available to view? do they charge to view it?

Yip, it's just programs/movies downloaded in the background using a separate part of the hard-drive - they obviously made provision for it a while back so it doesn't influence your existing hard-drive space. And while they don't charge per view, one does have to pay the additional R50pm for XtraView for the PVR, so it's technically not free. I find it useful once or twice a week, however it is nowhere near big enough from a selection POV, and isn't updated often enough. I'd like a function to remove something that has been viewed and the space is filled by another program of my choice - or allow me to make my picks and it downloads it itself in the background...

There's no extra charge however, I'd rather use that hdd space for recording more of the shows I want to watch.
 
so if i already have a pvr i have to pay an extra R50?

AFAIK, it doesn't use existing space - uses a separate partition (I'm probably phrasing this incorrectly, but you get he point hopefully). That is my understanding of it at least...

as long as it is on the hard drive, it is using space that the user could be using. i think that is what bwana is saying.

Sure - however if I am sold a 80gig PVR, that is all that I expect from it. If they have made provision for a few extra gigs then I have nothing to complain about when they make use of this for the on-demand material.
 
Their content is just repeats of stuff already shown, nothing new. It's just to help out subscribers whos PVR recordings failed because of MonoChoice's **** hardware and beta software.
