Lost and Confused...
Hi all!
Apologies if I am repeating a previous thread, would you recommend DSTV or TopTV with a monthly budget of approx R400? Thanks!

With empyesis on LESS... as both are pretty crap compared to what other countries have

Add the R150 and just get single view DSTV premium. At least you're getting the sport.

For family entertainment Top TV is just as good if you are on a budget.

For latest sport + movies DSTV is better.

PS: TopTV has way superior picture quality.

Yes but only when it works.Ttv still has issues with signal strength.

If you don't need sport TopTV is the better of the two. Fewer channels but less crap just to get the channel count up.

TopTV does have better quality picture than dstv.

If you need SA sport DSTV is the only way to go unfortunately.

Neither :D .....

1. get mediaplayer
2. get an account with hotfile / rapidshare / fileshare ..... the list goes on
3. get a good uncapped or very good capped ADSL account
Outcome ..... watch everything (latest & greatest) loooong before any of those companies will ever decide to air the stuff. :)
For sport ..... grab some buddies & head over to a sports bar .... less women nagging in your ear as well :D ... win-win situation

DSTV I am switching my TopTV off end of the month. I have had enough of the boring channels, low quality content. I will miss a few things but I think DSTV will give me more bang for my buck

How is Toptv better? in any kind of sense? Their movies suck, their science shows suck, fox is ok but the repeats are disgusting.

i chose ttv coz of kerrang. picture is EXCELLENT on my hd ready tv. will not upgrade to full hd unless it gives in after 15yrs lol

Kerrang is average at best, and they certainly know how to repeat the music. The kerrang we get here, is nothing like overseas kerrang...

I can say without a doubt i would get dstv over toptv. I have sat with TTV since day 1 of release, hoping for it to get better. It hasnt, its awful.

TopTV Sucks!

If you're used to DSTV (and can afford their rip-off price for premium service), don't even think of TopTV. The DSTV budget bouquets provide poor value, and aren't worthy of consideration. It's premium or nothing. If I could switch off all the Supersport, MNET & Kyknet; and pay half the price, I'll be back with DSTV in under a month. I don't watch sport, and even so I find TopTV a pile of trash. Their repeats are absolutely ridiculous. You can't record anything to watch later, as they broadcast recording blocking signals effectively disabling your recording equipment (apparently due to their licensing agreement). Their promises of PVR functionality are nothing more than cheap lies meant to hoard unsuspecting subscribers. If you watch TopTV quite intensively for about 6 months, I'll be guessing you have a probability of about 0.9 (ie 90%) of seeing something you've seen before at any given moment when switching on your TV thereafter. With a dismal online TV schedule, and three-day decoder schedule, PVR functionality will be of little use too.

I can't imagine the license holders of the material supplied to TopTV being so strict that they insist on recording blocking the broadcasts, as the program material is of a much lower standard than that broadcast on DSTV, who did not broadcast blocking signals when I was subscribed to them! Blocking program recording only annoys the folk who don't intend pirating material, whereas the true hackers will find a way around as they always do! I very much doubt that the junk on TopTV will attract hackers anyway.

Don't bother wasting time posting comments on HelloPeter or Facebook, as they fall on deaf ears too. My intention is giving TopTV one year from their inception to start shaping up, which means I'll probably be giving them notice one month from now!

Top Tv = Good Music Selection | Movies (If you vs DSTV Compact) and Documentary

Dstv = on ur budget

I switched to Toptv thou Im missing Dstv abit (I moved to Toptv cause it was my second time my dstv dsd had software errors)

If you have had DSTV in the last 10-15 years you would have seen most of the premier shows on TTV.
