Which DSTV package is recommended if you just basically want it to watch the occasional rugby match and some not so rubbish tv. We dont watch a lot of tv so dont need hundreds of channels. Netflix is good enough for me but hubby wants to watch rugby too so I guess we would have to get DSTV....Or is there another way to watch rugby on Saturdays without having to subscribe to DSTV?

Get a friends or family members premium account number and register for DSTV now, if they are not using it, you can stream most channels including super sport via the DSTV Now portal, but then you need to connect a PC/Laptop to the TV, unless there is another way that I'm not aware of.

For rugby and cricket you have no option but to subscribe to Premium...

Just checked...DSTV Premium is R759! Not worth it considering we only watch the occasional rugby game when its on. My parents have DSTV (the top package) but my dad is constantly watching tv since being on retirement so I doubt we can use it through them.

Thats exactly what I'm saying, your folks use a Decoder, so use their Premium account to register on DSTV Now and stream the red-ball-hitting and egg-ball-throwing..

You can. Buy a Walka or use the Web based app - it's included in the price that he pays - you just need his subscriber details to register.

the best DSTV package is to save the money and upgrade your internet connection.

anything you want on DSTV is available on the internet.
local rugby? sure. local cricket?/ that is not even on DSTV so what is the point. international cricket sure.

a few searches around the forum should get you to the right sites quite easily.

DSTV is straight up not worth it for anything.

even if they offered a Supersport only package for R50 a month I would not give them a cent.
keep competition alive, stay away from DSTV.

Also of importance is that he needs to be a PVR subscriber or Explora owner and pay the monthly access fee of R85 on top of his 'normal' premium fee.

yes you can
use his account details to stream and to login online and catch up and whatnot
it wont be an issue cause its the same family so i doubt he will mind or even care

I personally would pay DSTV R50 a month for a Supersport only package

You can say what you like, but relying on the internet and streams remains a PITA if you want simplicity and ease of use (I refer here to sport specifically) - movies and series I agree.

More than that, it's a pain to stream to your TV. I'm firmly against schitty hacks like connecting laptops to TV's because I like my living room to be neat, organised and "permanent" - if you have to wake up from your couch to do something, it's a schitty hack...

Simple solution.

I have a small micro type PC connected to the TV via HDMI, the PC sits in the TV cabinet.

So I only have to press the ON button and off I go, this coupled with a wireless Rii remote works brilliantly.

Give your hubby's ballsack back and go drop him at a pub. Go pick him up 3 hours later. He first need to discuss the match with his pelle after the game before he'll be willing to go him.

Make him a sandwich and use it as bait to get home

Yeah, that's a neat solution when coupled with something like Plex or Kodi and if the MicroPC is quite quiet.

Still doesn't solve the ****ty stream problem though

I personally use a Acer Revo one mini pc. It looks better than a decoder and does more.

Because I only watch cricket I don't feel it's a mission to stream the content I want at all.

But I suppose older people who are not technically able to operate a browser will want to use dstv.

They will want to be paying dstv to keep buying up all the rights of sport in sa and keeping the digital migration back.
They will keep paying dstv who in turn pay the sabc to keep their ceo nice and rich.

In short Ditch dstv it's the right thing to do
