Please can someone assist me with advice on the various DSTV Packages?

I have looked at the website and have even emailed a call center operator to no avail and I am getting conficting stories etc.

We have to move from DSTV Premium to one of the lower packages because of finances . It would be so lovely if DSTV offered on the option of creating your own packge to a certain extent as there are certain programmes we watch the most such as Mnet, Mnet series, BBC entertainment, zone reality, animal planet, crime and investigation etc ... but of course they do not give one this option, and the lesser packages give you loads of gumph you do not want but not the most popular channels.

Sadly as well MNET is not offered on any of the lower packages. So here are my qusestions:

  • can one get mnet on its own apart from dstv and / or can one run mnet and dstv as separate packages
  • can one add any programmes to a preset package
  • can one pay to have access to a particular channel for a specified time like a weekend etc
  • can one uprgrade from one package to another (again for a specified period of time say for instance if one wanted premium only for the holidays and would then revert to a lower package)
  • what is the R20 per programme option that some people have told me about.

Would really appreciate advice on this please

1 - No (You can buy an old mnet decoder and write them a letter and the previous owner should write one too if I remember correctly, not satelitte though)
2 - no
3 - 1 switch a month I think
4 - Yes, see above
5 - SABC 1,2,3 and etv I think. (Probably MZANZI magic too)

You have to choose one of their set packages. Not advertised is a very basic package for R 21 a month which includes 5 channels. You cannot change packages other than once a month, there are all sorts of terms and conditions about this. But I have fixed several people up with this cheap package and it is fine for them. In all cases we did it since they could not get satisfactory terrestrial TV and satellite was the answer.

Dstv compact @ R260pm is ok. if you check on their website there's a list of which channels are offered on each "bouquet".
